There and back again...in pursuit of fabric! [Dec. 2nd, 2009|02:57 pm]
We're back from Loscon safely as of this afternoon.

As always, a great time catching up with friends was had.

Meeting new ones is always cool.

And lots of things came "off the list!" yesterday on the second day in the garment district!

(YAY for finding the fabrics)

Minus Seven and Counting! [Nov. 18th, 2009|03:17 pm]
[Current Mood | bouncy]

7 days until we depart for Loscon, friends and the garment district!

Hoody hoo!

Purple coats are being worked on, other fun things being planned, mended or packed and hopes of lots of social time with friends.

Teren is doing well in school and is likely to earn his Wii by Christmas with his work on the goals with his aide and teachers. The daily double-checking if he's taller than me yet is getting wearisome though. *smile*

Plans are well underway mentally for the December 19th Annual Yule Party and the notebook of holding has lots of elements for the next year's celebrations.

Off to get more stuff removed from my work desk in preparation for my nice long trip.

Wow, it's been a while since I've posted here!

So many birthdays, past and upcoming, so many now-absent friends.

Penumbra Faire was fun.  COLD, but fun, and I look forward to next year.

Managed to get my spring bulbs planted and the garden beds prepped for winter finally and am finishing off Halloween costume commissions to send out this week.  Helped Lydanta with removing and replacing the stairway and sewing room carpet. Tasted cakes and fillings and have been watching the roommate's children for the past 2 weeks while she's in training out of state.  Thank GHODS she's back today and I no longer need to do that!!!!

Arddun Mor, my fae for Penumbra, is shown below.

bouncy, bouncy, bouncy! [Sep. 13th, 2009|11:32 pm]
[Current Mood | giddy]

Cut to save your eyes.... )
What with it being a birthday weekend and all, we had several things going on here in the PNW.

Hopefully the weather is as gorgeous next weekend when I'm / we're trying to clean canvas and such for the winter storage.

But, that's not why I'm bouncy.

Today, after a chance run in with my cousin in Southcenter, Gambit and I had a date to celebrate his birthday, little had I guessed he had more on his mind.

Between the delicious dinner at Cutter's right by Pike Place Market and "Wicked", he coaxed me into a small grassy area and underneath a maple tree, got down on a knee and proposed.

He designed a ring with two dragonflies supporting a purple sapphire--sapphire birthstone for him, but purple for me.

My pretty ring!

First impression summary of Costume College [Aug. 3rd, 2009|03:06 pm]
[Current Mood | cheerful]
[Current Music |Oingo Boingo!]

I'm glad I went.

Honestly that's the first thing I can say.  Not only because I got to see people I normally only see once a year at Loscon, it's been a banner year for being able to do that really, but because of the concept.

So to all the people who kept nagging at me to put in a scholarship until I finally did so, thank you.  If you know someone who was in on that who isn't on LJ, please pass it along to them.  There was a trio of ladies who 'cornered' me at the dealer's room door at Costume Con 26 who really started the final energy towards that process, working on the foundation certain Ladies of Lux had put into place.

I know there are several folks involved with the running, and I intend to do a formal thank you as well, but I'll say it here too.  Thank you for the scholarship, the feedback and boost of confidence.

Trimmed for your ease.... )

Must drag myself back into work mode, really, but I'm looking forward to next year.  My Barony's major event is the weekend after next year's CoCo, so I CAN go calendar-wise, and Gambit is going to be the "Enabler" apparently, so all I need to do is keep track of when to put in a membership and all the other forms.

Weather and Costume College [Jul. 29th, 2009|03:50 pm]
[Current Mood | hot]

When I start the day out before 7 am with it warmer than 75 F, and at 98 before noon in my area, it's too warm.  I'm not acclimated to tropical heat (with humidity) anymore, it's been over 30 years.

So tomorrow will be running away to LA to actually be COOLER rather than warmer for the first time.  :P

Nothing new made for Costume College, since I'm not sure of my ground there yet, but I have a few odds and ends packed to play with while I'm there.   We don't get into the airport until almost 1130 pm tomorrow, and leave at 7 pm on Sunday.  Whee!

Laurene Williams Hall July 6, 1945 - May 25, 2009 [Jun. 11th, 2009|03:48 pm]
[Current Mood | melancholy]

Lauri was born in Ammon, ID on July 6, 1945, passing away May 25, 2009 in Orem, UT.  Graduating as Bonneville High School's Valedictorian in 1963, she left BYU in 1964, to marry and raise a family with James Lee Hall.

All her life, Lauri needed to be helpful or doing things. She served as the Navy wives Ombudsman overseas, while raising her family and fulfilling the numerous calls to service within her faith. Many were with youth groups, but her favorites were the library or researching genealogy. She loved to read, work cross stitch or sew, to garden, cook and bake- and then share the fruits of her labors or teach others.

A widespread family survives her: daughter JonnaLyhn Hall of Tacoma, WA, sons Jeremy (Heather) Hall and Jason (Kelly) Hall of Pleasant Grove and Eagle Mountain, UT, 8 grandchildren, brothers Duane (Jan) Williams and Ronald (Sharlene) Williams of Idaho Falls, ID, numerous nieces and nephews, and other friends and relatives across the country.  Lauri was preceded in death by her father John J. Williams, mother Juanita Grace Owens, and husband James Lee Hall.

Memorial services will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, June 20, 2009 at Ammon Cemetery in Idaho Falls.

Now to finish working on the bio for the services and keep practicing her favorite hymn.

[Current Mood | melancholy]

Not just your normal everyday post-con blues.

First, happy birthdays to cleothyla (May 23rd) and jthejester (May 24th) since I wasn't really online this weekend while at Baycon.  I hope you enjoyed yourselves!  *grin*

Going to Baycon after an absence of 19 years was interesting and I did have a lot of fun seeing people-Rob Lupo and Perlandria especially since it had been SO long since we last saw each other (last Baycon for the latter).  Sharing a room with chartreusekitty was great, especially getting to cheer as I watched her earn awards at the Masquerade (and I *still *stand by my reasons to not enter this year).  Seeing several friends again, rather than having to wait until Loscon or living vicariously through LJ or Facebook.  Meeting a few new ones. Doing the Catwoman dress up was a lot of fun, and even figuring out how to bring several outfits while flying, instead of driving like we do for Loscon. Gambit, Garbleblast and I will all be returning for next year, hopefully Lydanta will join us.

Unfortunately, as Gambit and I said goodbye to his friend Christy (whom he hadn't seen since '94), we realized my phone was ringing and I had missed a phone call from Utah.  My mother passed away about 1 pm-either from another heart attack or stroke- and is no longer in any pain or distress.

Right now I'm numb.  I will be withdrawing from the A&S competition at Lord Defenders, as her actual funeral is set for that day, in Idaho Falls.  I don't know how much I'll be checking my blogs--so if you ARE trying to reach me-phone or email will be the best ways, and likely phone first.

Thank you

Baycon query [May. 21st, 2009|09:44 am]

Is anyone local going to be available to possibly pick up two folks with light luggage at noon on Friday?

If not, we can take a cab, but would rather not if we can avoid it.

*Whee!* [May. 20th, 2009|02:39 pm]
[Current Mood | accomplished]

Baycon approaches!

Gambit and I have figured out the general idea of what costumes we're bringing down--flying is much more restrictive than driving for that.  *mock pout*  Makes it difficult to keep my reputation for changing costumes several times a day!

My June Faire wedding commission is almost complete--they are picking it up tomorrow night before I head out for Baycon.  I'm looking forward to seeing them at the event.

The fabric and costume swappage has been working out well so far.  Sunday I was able to send out for adoption much much MUCH more than I gained, and the same for last night as well.  Last night included spiffy vintage hats though, and I was lucky enough to snag several (I'm wearing one at work now...).

There's still another score or so of boxes to go through though, which both amuses and frightens me.  I've only had 11 years to re-accumulate this stuff, and it, well, let's just say it was taking up more space than my books (and that's a lot too)!

When I return from Baycon, I then will be finessing more of the schedule for Autumn War A & S classes, I've gotten a few write-ups for classes and such, but hopefully will be able to have a few more show up after the holiday weekend.  Plus I will be re-doing some prep for June Faire, including a new cover for Gryffry's tent, as it was damaged over the winter.  *sigh*

Between his being a teenager and growing, and that, there will be a LOT of sewing going on in the next two weeks!

*tap tap tap....* Swap and Sell: Tacoma area [May. 12th, 2009|02:30 pm]
[Current Mood | amused]

Is this thing on?  *grin*

Well, I've been having issues with it...forcibly doing "shift-refresh" in order to post OR to see current entries after noon last Friday.

Any how, I began the major purge of the fabric hoard last week (no, say it isn't so!) and have a few lengths of fabric, unfinished costumes/SCA projects/quilts and some trims that could use a new home.  A couple of other folks have mentioned an interest in swapping for something of theirs, or maybe have a plant or two that could use a new home as well.

So, Sunday-May 17th, from 2 pm until about 7...I'm going to open up my home/yard for folks to swap or sell.

I've got some lemon balm and daisies that over-runneth, and possibly a bleeding heart or two, the afore mentioned fabric and am looking at making rice and pancit (a Filipino dish).  So consider hanging out, bringing food to share and trading out old for new.  Herbs and veggie plants are welcome barter tools for me anyways!

Tag me at either hotmail or gmail using my LJ handle for more information.

(corrected to show the right date--since I work Monday through Friday during most of that time period -P)
