Halloween-ish goodness [Oct. 31st, 2011|12:32 pm]
[Current Mood |creativecreative]

Erik and I took Nayeli to her first Costume Concert yesterday, since we were judges for the costume contests run at both concert sessions.
Yes, shes Teeny Witch.  Teren didn't join us this year, but was hanging out with his best friend-and looking forward to dressing up today (and several times in the future) with his new look- Richard from "Looking for Group".

Yes, I've not been posting here. [Aug. 26th, 2011|03:16 pm]
Sorry, but that last bit of pregnancy just flew past in some ways, and then so have the past 4 months with Nayeli.

She's gone from 7 pounds 9 ounces to over 12 pounds in that time, camped at 2 SCA events, attended 1 other, been to Costume College and Worldcon, taken her first round trip airplane trip and seen her grandparents.

We had to send Freyja over the Rainbow Bridge this month on the 9th, at 17+ years of age she just woke up and couldn't make it happen anymore.  Teren cared for her that day and said his goodbyes, then we let her go to that final sleep.

The corgis are shedding like crazy in the heat that has finally caught up with us and enjoy seeing Nayeli in the evenings.

Erik, David and Anita's presentation at Worldcon took Best in Show-Original Performance for "Night at the Sci-Fi Museum".  I was involved in an 8-person BRCG group "Semi-Precious Jewels" and had a lot of fun.  My costume succeeded in the goal of not purchasing anything specifically for the outfit, and though Spazzies weren't awarded this year, our group received a Presentation Award for Worst Internet Meme for rickrolling the Masquerade. Hoshikage had a wonderful cosplay, that I'm not even going to try to type out, for fear of mangling without my program, and Vicki Glover redid her "Nothing to Wear" presentation, both also winning awards!   My third official Worldcon, all being involved somewhere with the Masquerade, but first time as an entry.  Beyond that we have doctor visits, house goals, personal goals, and short/long term planning for conventions and costumes.

No photos as of yet for Worldcon here, but grandparents and one from Costume College below.

She's here! [Jan. 6th, 2011|09:10 am]
[Current Mood |giddygiddy]

So yesterday, my friend Tina got to raid my library for a bit while awaiting the arrival of FedEx for my doll delivery.

Last October I ordered an Emily 5StarDoll with normal skin and makeup after quite a bit of looking around and listening to folks who have BJD's already.  Much to my delight, she arrived with eyes and hair in colors I like, plus my additional order of violet eyes to change out as desired.

2 hours after I came home, Seren at least had a shift and the start of a sideless surcote (I *am* a geek after all, and she will be going to CoCo with a nice set of historical clothing for the theme, as well as a small fae costume).  Still needs the trimmings on the sideless, a proper GFD and her accessories (hose, shoes, belt/pouch, hair), but at least it's a start.  *grin*

*Glee!*

FedEx tracking shows an estimated arrival date of my BJD Emily for this Wednesday!

Must remember to see if Tina is willing to use my house for projects that day to be available for signatures, just in case.

Happy birthday Laragoth!

Such interesting times we live in... [Oct. 20th, 2010|11:43 am]
[Current Mood |quixoticquixotic]

Apologies to those who saw this also on Facebook-my dear brother forgot I hadn't posted it openly there and blabbed last week. *chuckle*

So apparently when my sister *really* has faith in a union and is the minister, she *REALLY* blesses it.

Gambit and I are dealing with the unexpected delight of my being 14 weeks along now, so due the Friday of Norwescon next year. If of course, the baby doesn't come early like Teren did. (hope, hope, hope...)

Mind you, I'm not unhappy about it, although I could have wished for slightly more time after the wedding before catching (like oh, say next February?) but the body, it is not especially happy with me.

*rueful laugh* Mind you, it's been 17 years and my journals from that time were lost in the housefire of '97, but I don't do 'easy' pregnancies and am envious of those who are so blessed.

Ginger and peppermint are still my friends and I now have a 32 oz bottle at work that I have to empty each day, with another at home to repeat there, and twice on weekends. Dehydration from failure to do so is NOT fun!

No, we don't know what gender the baby is yet, and while we won't actively pursue that concept, if it shows during the next couple of ultrasounds, we'll share. Being the age I am, I get the joy of having a few more of them to help make sure the baby and I are doing ok. :P

So yeah, Loscon will be interesting in that I will have a lot fewer costumes there than usual. *snicker*

October begins...with a whimper or a bang? [Oct. 4th, 2010|03:58 pm]
[Current Mood |tiredtired]

Spent most of the weekend doing small house chores (or large depending on your point of view).

Saturday saw Teren sorting out everything that had been on the floor of his room in the Great Room, because I literally raked it all out and gave him a deadline. Meanwhile I swept/vacuumed/mopped his floor and carpet and did laundry, taking the opportunity to remove outgrown/destroyed teen clothing. He ended up happier because he can see more plus he earned $10 for finishing that job.

Lydanta and others came to get stuff out of the trailer for Archery Fest, which I am sad to be missing.

Erik got the cabinet replacement pieces stained and lots of shelves built, plus a ramp for Freyja.

My hats and wigs are 95% sorted and under control, beads the same and I have cleared space in front of my pattern cabinet so I can start slowly working on finishing it. Found the missing doll clothes and hair, so I can get her finished and out the door this month.

Determined Friday night that while Teren liked watching the Final Fantasy movie (no, I don't remember which one)it was far too disjointed for me, especially since I don't do computer games. But spending time as a family watching it was more important.

All this plus donations to the thrift stores and lots of rest breaks.

Woof!

wow, time flies [Sep. 27th, 2010|09:08 am]
It's been an interestingly busy end of summer/beginning of fall, with the last couple of SCA camping events and preparations for Harvest Feast (as the Head Cook).

We're still slowly going through everything in the house to cut down on stuff and working on costumes, yard and garden and doing things with friends.

Teren's a junior this year, and has even more homework of course, which is like pulling eyeteeth to get completed. SO like his parents!

In light of the many costumes I wish I could do, but would take up a tremendous amount of time on a "to-fit-me" scale, I'm looking into purchasing a doll to make smaller scale versions.

Since I know several of you own dolls, I'm asking for input on favorite models or makers, so that while I am setting aside money for this I can do my research.

I'm thinking somewhere around the 18 - 24" height would be preferable and I do NOT want one that looks very child-like.

:)
